5 Essential Tips for a Smooth & Healthy Healing

We believe a piercing is more than just a piece of jewelry – it’s a ritual of self-expression, confidence, and beauty. Whether you’re showing off a sparkling helix or a bold septum, how you care for your new piercing makes all the difference.

To help you heal with ease and intention, here are 5 essential aftercare tips to protect your piercing and keep it looking beautiful from day one.

✨ Tip 1: Keep It Clean & Simple (Especially in the First Days)

The first few days are the most delicate. Your body is working hard to heal, so treat your piercing like a fresh wound – with care, patience, and gentleness.

Do’s:

  • Always wash your hands before touching your piercing.

  • Clean the area twice a day with a saline solution (see recipe below).

  • Leave it alone as much as possible – no twisting, turning, or picking.

Don’ts:

  • Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, or harsh soaps.

  • Stay out of pools, oceans, and hot tubs during the healing phase.

  • Keep makeup, lotions, and oils away from the area.

🌊 Tip 2: Use Saline Solution – Your Healing Hero

A simple saline soak is your best friend during the healing process. It gently cleanses and soothes your piercing without irritation.

DIY Saline Recipe:

  • 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt

  • 1 cup (250 ml) of warm, distilled or previously boiled water (let it cool slightly)

Soak a clean cotton pad or gauze in the solution and gently press it against the piercing for a few minutes. Do this twice daily – morning and night – for best results.

🌸 Tip 3: Know the Healing Timeline

Every piercing has its own healing rhythm. Don’t rush it – listen to your body and give it the time it needs.

General healing guide:

  • Earlobe: 6–8 weeks

  • Cartilage (helix, tragus, etc.): 3–6 months

  • Nostril: 2–4 months

  • Septum: 6–8 weeks

  • Navel: 6 months to 1 year

Some redness, slight swelling, and clear discharge are completely normal. However, if you notice sharp pain, excessive swelling, yellow or green pus, or heat in the area, contact a professional piercer or medical provider.

🛌 Tip 4: Sleep Smart & Avoid Friction

Sleeping on your piercing or putting pressure on it can cause irritation or prolong healing. Try sleeping on the opposite side or use a travel pillow to reduce contact. Also avoid tight clothing, headphones, or anything that may rub against the piercing.

💎 Tip 5: Choose the Right Jewelry & Support Your Body

Always wear high-quality, hypoallergenic jewelry – think titanium, solid gold, or niobium – to prevent irritation and allergic reactions. And don’t forget: healing happens from the inside out. Stay hydrated, eat nourishing foods, and get plenty of rest.
